STORIES / Gallery 1: Japan Dry Cleaners, 2008

At the time I took the photo, Mr. Nakamurakare was very sick. Although he had stopped working, he would hang out at the shop reading the paper and keeping his son company. Two years after taking the picture, I called up to see if he was still around in the hope of interview- ing him. His son explained over the phone that his father was under strict medical treatment and that it wasn’t a good time, that I should try later, in a couple of months or even a year. Instead of waiting, I decided to stop by on a future trip. A couple of months had passed since our phone conversation. When I arrived I found that the place had been demolished. A rich businessman had bought the property and the Nakamurakares had moved to Buenos Aires.Saladillo, Buenos Aires Province
