El Farolazo, 2006
This is a bar whose clients are mostly people that work on the farms, hence the name on the wall written with farm tools. The word farolazo means “big lamp,” and refers to the kerosene lamp that can be seen in the center of the photograph. Luis Enciso worked in the merchant marine for over thirty years, and this was one of the souvenirs he kept. After retiring, he bought a piece of property that included this old bar, so he restored it and ran it for a couple of years. He closed it when he felt too tired to continue.
